Depression is under-recognized and very treatable. Brief, validated screening during a routine visit is one of the more reliable ways to catch it, particularly alongside chronic illness or a major life change.

What to Expect

Screening is a short set of questions and a conversation. If the answers point to depression, your physician discusses treatment options, arranges referral where it is appropriate, and follows up rather than leaving it at the screening.
